New Video for Reflection Sciences

Reflection Sciences asked us to explain the Minnesota Executive Function Scale app, a powerful tool for scoring and tracking executive function.

The script:

At Reflection Sciences, we’re passionate about measuring what matters. That’s why we developed the first simple, fast, and objective assessment of executive function.

Often called the “air traffic control system” of the mind, executive function is a set of cognitive skills that allow children to pay attention, keep information in mind, manage their behavior, and think flexibly. It’s no surprise, then, that executive function is a powerful predictor of healthy lifelong development, including emotional intelligence and academic success.

Based on scientific research, and designed for ages two and up, the Minnesota Executive Function Scale, or MEFS, offers a reliable way to quickly evaluate executive function.

The MEFS is presented as a fun game on a tablet, and takes just five minutes to complete. The game, which features pattern and color matching challenges, adapts to a person’s age and performance to yield a valid EF score.

Of course, no assessment is complete without actionable results. Use our online portal to compare scores against norms, identify children in need of additional assessment, track the development of executive function, and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching practices and curricula.

Refection Sciences is committed to helping educators equip children with the cognitive, social, and emotional skills that are vital for long term success. Contact us and request a demo to learn how we can help you measure what matters!

New Video: Get-out-the-vote Spot for EVP

Our wonderful relationship with the Environmental Voter Project continues with this fun little 15-second YouTube pre-roll spot. Targeted at residents of Boston and Revere who match a specific demographic profile designed by EVP, the video was designed to boost turnout for a local election. The results aren’t in yet, but I’m told that even a one percent lift in voter turnout can dramatically change results.

The script:

Hey, Boston and Revere!

Your State Senate election is on April 12th and everybody’s voting.

What’s your plan to vote? Are you going before work or after?

And remember, who you vote for is secret, but whether you vote or not is public record.

So be a good voter!

New Video for Washingtonians for a Responsible Future

Seattle-based non-profit Washingtonians for a Responsible Future got in touch requesting a video that explains the upcoming long-term care crisis for America’s aging population. The goal was to highlight the issue in a way that doesn’t terrify viewers, but rather moves them towards understanding and a desire to become more involved.

With all of that in mind, I came up with an idea to use chickens as our protagonists. Chickens are always good for lighthearted fun, and there are plenty of metaphors for aging that work with a chicken motif. Wow, I just wrote the phrase “chicken motif.”

We loved working on this project, and it’s always wonderful to help non-profits reach people in new ways. As I write this, the video has gotten about 32,000 views on Facebook alone.

The script:

For spring chickens, it’s hard to imagine aging into lovable old birds, having trouble moving around the nest, and needing a caring wing to lean on.

We all deserve TLC when our feathers are worn, but it costs money. Today, the average cost of long term care for each of us is about a hundred thousand dollars. Most of the time, money, and effort it takes to care for our aging loved ones comes from family finances.

As our aging population explodes, governments and families are straining to meet the need, and it’s getting worse. In our state alone, Medicaid spending on long term care will more than double in fifteen years.

Yes, we’ve got plenty to flap about, but there are solutions. Washingtonians for a Responsible Future is a diverse coalition of problem solvers. Together, we can build a strong, supportive future for Washington families. Please join us.
